Your AI can set the same section options you'd set by hand in the estimate editor: selections the client chooses between, assemblies with a quantity and unit, and display-only sections that deduct instead of add. Selections and assemblies are paid features, so check Settings, then "Estimates", before asking your AI to set one up.
Selections
A selections section offers the client options, and the total counts only the ones selected. Projul has three kinds: "Required single selection" (the client must pick exactly one), "Optional single selection" (one or none), and "Optional multiple selection" (any number). An option can be a single line or a whole subsection, though a subsection can't hold its own subsections. Tell your AI which kind, the options, and which one starts selected.
On the [Thompson Deck Rebuild] estimate in Projul, make the [Railings] section a selection where the client must choose one: [aluminum railing at $1,995], [cable railing at $2,856], or [composite railing at $2,310]. Start with aluminum selected.
The client picks on their estimate link. The printed copy lists only the selected options, unless you ask for the unselected ones to be shown too.
Assemblies
An assembly is a section with a quantity and unit, such as 320 sq ft. The section total is still the sum of its lines, not the quantity times a rate, and the unit count stays hidden from the client until you ask your AI to show it.
Display-only sections
A display-only section counts its value as a deduction rather than an addition. Projul uses this on change orders to show work removed from the approved scope and take that money off; see How do I have my AI add a change order? Mark the top-level section display-only, not a subsection inside an ordinary section: the deduction is taken from the top level down, so a flag on an inner subsection alone has no effect.
What the client sees
Your AI can show or hide a subsection, a section's prices, an assembly's quantity, and a line's quantity and photos. A top-level section's name and total always show. A new section starts visible with its lines hidden, so tell your AI to show the detail if you want the client to see it.
On the [Thompson Deck Rebuild] estimate in Projul, show the line items and quantities in every section, and hide the lines in [Demolition and disposal] so only that section's name and total show.
Open the estimate under "Estimates" in Projul to check the result.
